Two case studies in one

A wildfire on the holiday island of Ibiza is a perfect case study for both Y10 and Y11. It is an up to date example of a wildfire for Y10 , started accidentally in an unusual way.  Y11 - it is an excellent example of volatility- this may put people off travelling to Ibiza in the short term but is highly unlikely to affect tourism in the long term.

Spanish authorities on Ibiza have arrested a local man in connection to a massive blaze in the North of the Island.
According to local news reports, the man accidentally sparked Ibiza’s largest fire on record with a smoke-machine used to calm the bees that he kept.

Well over a thousand local residents and countless holidaymakers have been evacuated from homes and hotels due to the fire that has consumed roughly 1,450 hectares of land in the pine-covered mountains near Sant Joan de Labritja.
